The padding on the shoulder straps and on the back is ample, so again, it might be great on a smaller person. Shoulder straps are comfortable even when the bag is fully loaded, and the back offers sufficient padding for all-day use. For theft, a cross-body bag is the safest, but even then when I have a crossbody or messenger bag, I am holding onto it very securely. It is helpful to have all your gear - particularly shoes and socks - before you leave home, but some very good new and used equipment is available in Nepal (particularly useful if you’re in the middle of a longer trip through Asia).
